Coaching Search

Texas athletics
University of Texas was in the position of needing to hire multiple coaches simultaneously.

Following the hire of a new athletic director at Texas, the University sought to make two new coaching hires in the sports of Softball and the men’s and women’s Track & Field teams.

Challenge

Texas needed to complete executive searches for both sports simultaneously.

Solution

CSS worked to build both candidate pools, conduct interviews, and support the institution with contract negotiations.

Results

Texas hired Edrick Floréal in June 2018. In Floréal’s first season, he guided the Longhorns to a pair of top-10 finishes at the NCAA Outdoor Championships (Men – 9th; Women – T-10th). In the year before his arrival, Texas had finished 25th and 34th, respectively. In total, The Longhorns earned 36 All-America honors across Indoor and Outdoor competition in Floréal’s first season at the helm. The Texas Women also swept the Big 12 Indoor and Outdoor conference titles in 2019.

Later that same month, the Longhorns hired Mike White to lead its women’s softball program. In his first two years at Texas, White put together a 70-20 overall record while guiding the Longhorns to their first NCAA Super Regional berth (2019) since 2013. During the abbreviated 2020 campaign, White led UT to a 24-3 overall record as well as to the program’s first No. 1 national ranking in any regular-season poll since 2006 (Softball America, March 3) and to the first No. 1 final poll finish in school history (Softball America, March 24 – final release).
