Coaching Search

In 2017, Miami University found itself in a unique position of needing to hire two head coaches simultaneously for men’s and women’s basketball.
Miami called on College Sports Solutions to provide executive search services in order to successfully complete the searches.
Challenge
Miami University needed to complete executive searches simultaneously for both its men’s and women’s basketball teams.
Solution
CSS worked to build both candidate pools, conduct interviews for both positions, and support the institution with both contract negotiations.
Results
Miami hired Jack Owens as its new men’s basketball head coach in March of that year. The following year he led the team to its most victories and first post-season appearance since 2011.
Miami hired Megan Duffy as its new women’s basketball head coach that next week. In her first season, Duffy guided Miami to the biggest turnaround in the nation under a first-year head coach that year, as the RedHawks finished with a 21-11 record. She was one of just four rookie head coaches to post at least 20 wins that year, and the only female to do so. Academically, the team was recognized as having the top GPA of any women’s program at Miami that year.
