Tom Moe is the former men’s athletic director for the University of Minnesota. As athletic director for the Golden Gophers, he effectively led the department through its NCAA difficulties in the late 1990’s, and was responsible for increasing revenues, upgrading facilities and collaborating with women’s athletics to improve programs for student athletes. During his time there, the Gophers were all sport leaders in the Big Ten Conference, and boasted unparalleled overall success, including a hockey national championship.

Moe is a six-time Gopher letter-winner in baseball and football. He was the football team’s most valuable player in 1959, was a foundational piece of the Gopher’s football program that went to the Rose Bowl in 1961 and 1962. He was also a key member of the 1960 NCAA national championship baseball team. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1960 and his law degree from the university in 1963.

Moe enjoyed a brilliant legal career in Minneapolis for more than four decades, and eventually became the managing partner of the large Minneapolis law firm Dorsey & Whitney.
