Barbara Walker served four decades as a Division I administrator and coach. She retired in January 2021 from Wake Forest as Deputy Athletic Director/SWA, a position she held for 21 years. Wake Forest won five national championships and numerous ACC championships during her tenure.
Walker’s collegiate career began as a coach and administrator at The University of Alabama at Birmingham under legendary basketball coach Gene Bartow. In 1989, she moved to the University of Oregon, serving as Sr. Associate Athletic Director/SWA for eight years. In 1997, her career took her to The University of Texas at Austin, where she oversaw compliance and men’s academics.
Walker has served on numerous conference and national committees. She served as chair of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Committee and of the NCAA Honors Committee. She is a member of NACDA and Women Leaders in College Sports.
Walker earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees in education from the University of Central Missouri.
