Nov. 14, 2019 — DENTON — Texas Woman’s University announced today that Sandee Mott will become the university’s next athletic director effective January 2, 2020.
During her 26-year career in intercollegiate athletics as a coach and administrator, Mott has held a variety of positions, primarily with NCAA Division II colleges. Additionally, she has held key leadership roles on institutional, conference and national committees, including serving as chair on NCAA Division II women’s golf and basketball committees.
“In Sandee, we have found a leader who understands the role of athletics within the university and the community,” said Monica Mendez-Grant, Ed.D., vice president for student life. “She has led athletics programs that are competitive while maintaining high academic standards.”
Most recently at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS), Mott oversaw baseball, women’s lacrosse, women’s soccer, golf and softball programs as well as the compliance and media relations department while serving as senior associate director of athletics. During her tenure, women’s soccer and both golf programs qualified for NCAA post-season play, and baseball and women’s lacrosse teams were added.
Mott said she is excited to work with the TWU community and wants to make sure everyone has a great experience.
“I would like to thank TWU Chancellor, Dr. Carine Feyten, and Dr. Grant for the tremendous honor to serve as the director of athletics at Texas Woman’s University. The storied tradition of the institution and the athletics department provides the foundation for current and future success,” said Mott. “I am drawn to the University’s mission and the dynamic vision for the athletic department and feel the timing is right for me to begin this exciting new chapter in my career.”
Mott previously served as director of athletics at Johnson & Wales University; associate director of athletics at Metropolitan State University of Denver; associate commissioner at Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference; assistant athletic director, senior woman administrator and head women’s basketball coach at Western State College; and as coach at Montana Tech and the University of Saint Mary.
Mott earned a bachelor’s degree from Friends University and a master’s degree from Fort Hays State University.
TWU’s search committee included faculty, staff and alumni and engaged with Buffkin-Baker and College Sports Solutions to help manage the search process.
