Men’s Basketball Head Coach

General Statement:

Cal Poly is seeking a Head Coach for its NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Program.

Cal Poly sponsors 22 sports at the NCAA Division I level.  All sports compete in the Big West Conference except Football, which competes in the FCS Big Sky Conference, and Wrestling, which competes in the PAC12.

Women’s programs include: basketball, volleyball, beach volleyball, soccer, softball, cross country, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, swimming and diving, tennis, and golf.

Men’s programs include: football, basketball, baseball, cross country, golf, swimming and diving, tennis, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, soccer, and wrestling.

Cal Poly seeks a head men’s basketball coach, Under the direction of the Director of Athletics, with abilities to:

  • Lead a successful and competitive Division I Men’s Basketball program that emphasizes integrity; supports the development, education, and welfare of its student-athletes; and strives for athletic and academic excellence within the University’s mission.
  • Effectively coach in practices and in games, demonstrating thorough knowledge of the sport of basketball and an ability to develop student-athletes to their full potential, with the goal of retention and graduation of student-athletes.
  • Create, support and assist with planning, implementing, and monitoring programs, initiatives and efforts designed for  academic achievement and graduation.
  • Learn and maintain knowledge of current rules and regulations governing intercollegiate athletic competition, including the rules and regulations of the NCAA and the Big West Conference, and assume all responsibility for program governance.
  • Responsible for the hiring, development, performance and evaluation of assistant coaches.
  • Develop comprehensive recruiting plan to attract top-tier student-athletes who will bring academic and competitive success to the program.
  • Oversee conduct and discipline of the team, with particular emphasis on the holisitic development of student-athletes .
  • Work with Team Physician and Sports Medicine staff to ensure student-athletes receive the best medical care and services.
  • Work closely and collaborate with Strength and Conditioning staff on the planning and execution of agreed upon pre-season, in-season and off-season training and condition program.
  • Monitor annual operational, scholarship, and recruiting budgets for program within the parameters and procedures set by the Director of Athletics. Collaborate with Athletic Business office on matters of fiscal and budget planning and implementation.
  • Collaborate with Athletics Advancement staff in developing and implementing promotional and fundraising activities to support the program by engaging with local community and alumni.
